We’ve decided that the time is right for us to build ourselves a community of like minded people in this artistically rich area of the world known as SF. We want to create a bridge between those of us with history, knowledge, contacts and experience with the next generation of DJ’s, producers, promoters and those who just have a true passion for this music called EDM.

With todays technology innovations, creating and sharing and connecting with each other around music has never been more accessible. The amount of music, DJ’s, events and information is staggering.

With that comes the need to learn these tools and techniques and to learn them fast. Tools for making and shaping music are greater then they have ever been. Learning real world ways to use them have not kept pace. Often those experiences in learning are either expensive or time consuming.

In addition, some people find that creating music to be very natural and easy but have trouble learning how to market and sell both their music and themselves. We hope to do our little part to help people in our backyard by opening our doors to teach, to learn, to guide and mentor. While we do offer production and education services as part of our ongoing business, we also feel the need to give something to the community that has given us so much.

So beginning in October, 2010, M2, in conjunction with our good friends at
The Hawt Minute,
will be hosting a series of monthly/bi-monthly workshops, discussion groups and various events at it’s facility in SF.

Events will be free of charge, all ages and open to the public.

We are planning a range of topics and events that we hope will:

• Provide knowledge about various aspects of electronic music production

• Provide an environment to discuss challenges and solutions for new DJ’s/Producers

• Provide those in the community with a space to build a network and business connections

• Provide guidance and pathways for sharing and releasing your music in the future

• Provide useful and relevant information to help you promote yourself online and in your community.

1A – Making Beats w/Chris Lum
Topics covered: Intro to sampling, using effects to create more dynamic drum parts, plug in tutorials (Logic’s Ultrabeat & EXS).

2A -Efficient File and Session Management w/Homero Espinosa
Topics covered: Safely and efficiently organizing, storing & backing up sounds libraries and project sessions.

3A – Working with Digital Retail w/Deron Delgado of Stompy.com

New EMC2 Workshop Announced

M2 (aka Moulton Media) is happy to announce its next round of Emc2 music production workshops.

An Emc2 workshop is one of the most unique and exciting ways to learn the real Ins and outs of electronic music production.

Originally created and launched in Melbourne Australia (2005), this hands on learning experience is run by Grammy Nominated producer and 20 year working DJ Chris Lum. The Emc2 workshop is one of the few in the world today that will give you the “creative” insights into the foundations for making electronic dance music specifically. As industry professionals with a proven track record, we feel that when it comes to learning programs and applications, there are a million choices out there for you. But if you want to learn how to be creative, to write great beats, to compose, arrange and mix in a creative way, there are few choices out there for you. This is the need we fill with the Emc2 experience.

In four days of studio time, you will start and complete a track with Chris Lum.

You will provide creative direction, perform critical tasks, conceptualize ideas and lead the direction of the composition. Chris is there to provide you with his experience and knowledge to get the song done on time all while share with you the techniques and process that he has learned in the 10 years plus years of producing and releasing music.

The experience at EMC2 will give you creative insight and techniques in:

• Sampling and sample editing
• Using instruments and keyboards
• Choosing and/or creating sounds
• Recording, editing and bouncing audio files
• Sequencing
• Creating interesting and dynamic arrangements
• Using and understanding effects to create a more dynamic song
• The mix-down process
• Preparing your music for professional environments

EMC2 sessions consists of four 6 hour days. Class times are 10:30 am to 6:00 pm
